World Series Final Game Captures 51 Million Audience Members Across the US, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The exciting 11-inning clash where the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a combined over 50 million viewers in the US, Canadian, and Japan territories. MLB reported this is the highest-rated World Series finale after the 1991 contest between the Twins and Braves.

Television Viewership Details

The Saturday epic game secured 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated World Series matchup after the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous Game 7 featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game was seventh, the fifth game came in eighth, and the third game landed in thirteenth position.

International Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the game recorded 11.6M viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English broadcast in the country after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – drew 13.1M viewers, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a single network in Japan.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-match World Series drew over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two straight years.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total US viewership reached over 16 million. The overall Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded over 8 million watchers, an eight percent rise over last year and Fox’s best playoff ratings after 2017.

MLB announced that the World Series was televised in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in sixteen different languages.
